Sehr geehrte Kolleginnen und Kollegen! Dear Colleagues!

Mit seinem 27. Symposium kehrt die Föderation Internationaler Donausymposien (FID)/Zentraleuropäische Diabetesgesellschaft (CEDA) wieder direkt an die Ufer der Donau zurück. Ungarische Forscher trugen wesentlich zu den Anfängen der klinischen Diabetes-Forschung bei. In unserer Kongress-Stadt Budapest studierte und promovierte Professor Somogyi, der wenig später als Biochemiker an den ersten Anwendungen von Insulin an Patienten in den USA beteiligt war. Ungarische Diabetologen waren aber auch an der Gründung und sind auch heute an der Förderung der FID zentral beteiligt. So danke ich im Namen der FID/CEDA der Ungarische Diabetes-Gesellschaft und im Besonderen Herrn Prof. Dr. Peter Kempler für die Organisation dieses Symposiums in der Donau-Metropole Budapest.

Die Symposien der FID/CEDA haben zum Ziel abseits der großen internationale Diabetes-Kongresse  ein Forum zum Austausch von Wissenschaft und Praxis sowie zur Fortbildung über diabetologische Themen zwischen Nachbarländern im weiteren Sinne zu sein. Dieses Format ermöglicht intensive Diskussionen zwischen erfahrenen und jüngeren Kollegen und Kolleginnen aus allen Fachbereichen, die sich mit Diabetes beschäftigen.

Wir laden Sie daher herzlich ein, diese Möglichkeiten zu nützen, und freuen uns, Sie in diesem wunderschönen Teil Zentraleuropas zu treffen!

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

The Diabetes Danube Symposium will be hosted for the third time in Budapest. „Tagungspräsident” at both previous meetings, in 1971 and 1981 was Professor Imre Magyar, who essentially contributed to the founding of FID in 1969 in Vienna as well. It is worth to mention that Professor Imre Magyar has founded the Hungarian Diabetes Association one year later in 1970, and served as its first president until 1984.

The congress in Budapest will traditionally focus on clinical diabetology. Invited lectures will be delivered by internationally respected speakers including many opinion leaders from Hungary. The key topics will include screening of type 2 diabetes mellitus, neuropathy and other microvascular complications, just as on different therapeutical approaches of type 2 diabetes. The present leaflet also contains lecture titles of speakers who already agreed to join. We would like to provide a possibility for a scientific forum including a broad spectrum of academic discussions for diabetologists from Central Europe. Abstracts representing all parts of clinical and experimental diabetology are welcome, accepted abstracts will be published. As a result of progression during the last years, English has also become the official language of the FID-CEDA congresses besides German. During the meeting in Budapest, we would like to focus more on English. Our congress will be officially supported by the Hungarian Diabetes Association.

I would like to invite you to the 7th Congress of the Central European Diabetes Association and 27th Symposium of the Federation of the International Danube-Symposia of Diabetes Mellitus between 28-30^th June, 2012, in Budapest. The congress venue will be Hotel Hilton in Buda Castle with an amazing panoramic view to the Danube.
